OPM3: How should your organization use this standard on 3/15/2012
Thursday, March 15, 2012, 06:00pm - 08:30pm
by janastas

Topic:  OPM3: How should your organization use this standard?

Presentation Materials:  Chapter Meeting Announcement | Best Practices Survey | Best Practices | OPM3 Presentation

Overview:  Just as the PMBOK Guide is the standard for the Project Manager, the The Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3) is PMI's standard for the Project Management organization.   What is it, and how should your organization adopt it?

Does your organization have a collection of tools for project/program/portfolio management that are poorly organized or incomplete?  PMI has a practice standard called "OPM3" that can be used to assess current state and make plans for improvement in any or all of those areas.  “OPM3” = Organizational Project Management Maturity Model.   OPM3 is one of the four “Foundational” standards of PMI, and is gaining in popularity.  On the local level, Rockwell Automation has been considering OPM3 as a standard, and it is also being evaluated at Progressive Insurance.

This presentation will introduce you to OPM3 concepts and describe options for do-it-yourself as well as professional help.  There will be a hands-on exercise to familiarize you with the maturity concepts.  Other frameworks such as CMMI, IVI, and the Kerzner/IIL online assessment tool will be reviewed, so that you have a range of options to consider.
